¿PUEDE SALVARSE EL MUNDO?

No lo sabemos. Los astrónomos nos aseguran que el Sol se consumirá en algunos miles de millones de años. Los biólogos nos informan que con el tiempo, todas las especies se extinguirán (aunque no dicen cuándo). Al extrapolar desde las tendencias actuales, los científicos y otros expertos de muchos campos ven un futuro sombrío, aun en un plazo bastante corto.

Pero en vez de desesperarnos, o negar los hechos, podríamos plantear la posibilidad de enfrentarnos a estos problemas con realismo y con tesón. No hay ninguna garantía del éxito, pero no adelantaremos nada con el derrotismo precipitado o el optimismo ciego.

¿VALE LA PENA SALVARLO?

Somos una forma de vida terrestre. El planeta Tierra, incluídas todas las obras humanas, es nuestra casa ancestral, el escenario de nuestra vidas y nuestro legado al futuro. Y por el momento no tenemos otro lugar a dónde irnos.

Nuestros "éxitos" y "adelantos" técnicos en los últimos siglos han causado problemas no previstos, y ahora parece que los acontecimientos estén fuera de nuestro control, como un caballo desbocado. Pero tal vez si lo intentamos entre muchos, podremos atajar la situación.

¡Ánimo! No olvidemos que no lo hemos hecho todo tan mal, en nuestros millones de años de la prehistoria y sólo unos 12.000 años de historia:

1. Muchas personas han disfrutado --y hasta hoy disfrutan-- de una vida relativamente segura y satisfactoria. Incluso en los tiempos más difíciles, casi todos estamos contentos de estar vivos.


2. Pequeñas comunidades y sociedades enteras han conseguido una buena medida de paz, estabilidad, prosperidad y progreso, que en algunos casos han perdurado durante siglos.


3. Partiendo desde cero, nuestra especie ha aprendido a pensar y aprender, y ha acumulado ingentes recursos en forma de conocimientos fiables y valiosos --el llamado "edificio del saber".


4. Tenemos sobrados motivos para estar orgullosos de nuestros logros en la ciencia y la investigación en general, las artes, la medicina, la tecnología, y en la vida social, económica, política e institucional.

Por lo tanto, podría valer la pena intentar proseguir por nuestro camino hacia el futuro, si somos capaces de rectificar nuestro errores, de hacer mejor uso de nuestros conocimientos, y de aprender a llevar nuestros asuntos vitales con mayor responsabilidad y acierto.

CAN THE WORLD BE SAVED?

We don't know. Astronomers tell us that the sun will burn out in a few billion years. Biologists tell us that all species will inevitably become extinct, though they don't say when. Extrapolating from current trends, scientists and experts in many fields see humanity's future as grim, even in the fairly short term.

Instead of despairing or turning our backs, we ought to consider how these problems might be faced, realistically. While there can be no guarantee of success, we know that our chances won't be improved by either defeatism or complacency.

IS IT WORTH SAVING?

Planet Earth is our ancestral home, and our legacy to the future. We are a form of terrestrial life, and it may be our nature to love the earth and its many delights. In any case, at this point we really have nowhere else to go.

Our technological advances in the last couple of centuries have caused unforeseen problems, and events now seem out of control. But perhaps we will be able to bring them under control, if enough of us make a concerted attempt.

Take courage! And remember, we haven't done all that badly in our millions of years of prehistory and only about 12,000 years of history:

1. Many people have enjoyed -and many still enjoy- relatively secure, satisfying lives. Even in the most troubled times, almost all of us are glad to be alive.
2. Individual communities and whole societies have managed to achieve relative peace, stability, prosperity, and progress, sometimes lasting for centuries.
3. Starting from zero, our species has learned how to think and how to learn, and has amassed vast resources of reliable, valuable information -the so-called "edifice of knowledge".
4. We have every reason to be proud of our achievements in science and scholarship, the arts, medicine, technology, and in social, economic, political and institutional life.
So it may be worthwhile trying to carry on -if we can survive our blunders, make better use of our knowledge, and learn to manage our affairs more responsibly.

Are you annoyed by the way we are living?
Does it bother you how the World works?

You need an often reminder just to keep breathing?
Are you trying to cut the wires with a spoon a two forks?


You want to change things... But think it won't work because your alone?
Is someone trying to feed you to the sistem?
Afraid of becoming another brick on the wall?


It's like you're stuck in a smooth running machine, and have no idea what is it for?
It's like you're lost in a black and white labyrinth and no-one bothers to show you the door?


If that's the case, belive me when I say you're not the only one,
we are scattered around the globe feeling half-fool and very confused.

Some say there's nothing we can do that hasn't already been done,
they wouldn't even try and politely asked to please be excused.

For us, the woken, and the ready to strand up and speak their minds,
a message of reclution to prove we are here, waiting by the sidelines.

For the one who's always searching and the one that always finds,
and to all that are ready to accept a truth, even to him that usualy declines.

ellos ni siquiera lo intentan y educadamente piden ser excusados.


Para nosotros, los despiertos, y los que estan listos para defender sus ideas,
un mensaje de reclutamiento para probar que acá estamos,
esperando en la vereda.

Para los que están siempre buscando y aquél que siempre encuentra;
para todos aquellos que están listos a aceptar una verdad,
y hasta para el que usualmente la rechaza.

¿Sabés cuánta basura electrónica generás?

Seguramente en tu casa tenés pilas, celulares, computadoras, electrodomésticos y aparatos electrónicos en funcionamiento y otros que ya no usás. Los artefactos que ya no sirven más forman parte del creciente porcentaje de basura electrónica que hoy se desecha con los residuos comunes y los que todavía funcionan pronto tendrán el mismo destino.

El crecimiento de la basura eléctrica y electrónica es alarmante, ya que estos residuos contienen sustancias altamente contaminantes, como metales pesados, que al ser enterradas o incineradas contaminan el suelo, las napas de agua y el aire, afectando a la salud de las personas.

Además, estos residuos contienen metales muy valiosos como oro, plata, platino, y cobre que podrían ser reciclados y reutilizados.

Greenpeace está impulsando una Ley de Gestión de Residuos de Aparatos Eléctricos y Electrónicos que de solución al tratamiento de esta creciente porción de residuos.

Intro: Hijos de la Tierra / Sons of the Earth

Dueños una fría e invisible maldición, vivimos negados a ver la cruda realidad del mundo que nos rodea.

Sufrimos en silencio exiliados de la sociedad por no entender las reglas del juego. Tratando de aferrarnos más y más a nuestros pequeños sueños utópicos de una vida simple pero plena, llena de aquellas pequeñas cosas que tanto nos ayudan a sobrevivir en éste medio.

Viviendo, a veces, escondidos en un mundo muy privado, lleno de fantasías, locura y magia, escondidos, muy adentro, allí donde nadie nunca nos podrá encontrar. Amando (y odiando) nuestra soledad.

Teniendo los sentidos tan alerta que todo lo vemos, oímos, olemos, degustamos y sentimos. Entendiendo más allá de nuestras respectivas edades, los problemas más personales de nuestro planeta. Pues nosotros somos los verdaderos hijos de la Tierra. Y como tales, sufrimos sus mismos dolores.

Queriendo aquella utopía inexistente.
Soñando con la más pura belleza de la vida,
y deseando más que nada la felicidad del hombre.
Nosotros estamos tan enfermos como la Tierra.

La Tierra que está rota, y sufre la más aguda tristeza.
Que es ignorada, como nosotros.

Jóvenes artistas,
adultos bohemios,
viejos hippies,
soñadores...

Todos es busca de lo mismo.

En busca de la paz del hombre, y con la naturaleza.
En busca del amor fraternal, de la pasión y de la libertad.

Pero principalmente: en busca de la felicidad...

Cursed by an invisible and cold spell, we find ourselves denying the cruel reality of the world around us.

We suffer in silence and exiled from society for not understanding the rules of the game. Trying to hold on to our little utopic dreams of a simple but full life. Living, sometimes, hidden in a very private world filled with magic, fantasy and madness. Loving (and hating) our loneliness.

Having our sences so alert that we can see, hear, smell, taste and feel almost everything. Understanding, beyond our respective ages, the most personal problems of our planet. For we are the true sons of the Earth. And as such, we suffer the same illness.

Wanting that impossible utopia.
Dreaming with the most pure beaty of life,
and wishing, more than everything, the happiness of man.
We are as sick as the Earth.

The Earth that is broken, and suffers the worst kind of sadness.
That is ignored, just like we are.

Young artists,
bohemian grown-ups,
old hippies,
dreamers...

We are all looking for the same thing.

Seeking for men to finally make peace, and be one with nature.
Seeking for brotherly love, for pasion and for freedom.

But mainly: seeking for happiness...
